You see these things everywhere, which is surprising in a place as wet and rainy and cold as St. Petersburg.  I asked the Watermelon Man pictured above about this, but he just shrugged and said he can keep the melons out until the big freeze.  Last year, he was selling the green monsters (10 or 11 kilograms on average) until October 15th.
